I am a charlatan
peddling fraudulent wares
but nobody else can see
the pushpins
where adhesive didn't stick.
And you'd think the paper trail
from the newspaper suit
would give it away
but the pictures keep smiling
while underneath gangrene begins
and happy happy faces
mask the smell
of death.
Poem

EDIT: Woah, a DD! A marvelously pleasant surprise. ^-^

... i felt like that a few years ago. people hide hurts and fears and corruptness underneath a flimsy outside that keeps floating away, way too often...

Congrats on your DD!!! :handshake:

This is a really neat piece...it has a great surreal feel to it, but its realistic, too.

"But the pictures keep smiling..." Boy, ain't that the truth!

I loved the beginning of this but at the end the rhythm really didn't stick and it sort of left a feeling of it being cut off? Just me, and I truly love how you started it :3 also congrats on the DD!

Congrats on your DD! You deserve it. This is really a awesome piece.
How people will believe what they want to believe in... even if it's obviously wrong - how a person can tell obvious lies to the public and no one will suspect a thing.
I think it really puts that across in a powerful way. The escalation from the pushpins to the newspaper suit, to gangrene and finally leaving it open and hanging at "death" . Wow.
No, really, just wow.

I like the voicing of this. It is kind of witty-sounding and sly; quick like a car salesmen.
I especially enjoyed those last four lines.

nice work :)

This poem is so cool - it tells of deceit in a truthful way, but there's still things left unsaid. The first line just sucked me in with its power and blunt, truthful manner. The repetition in 'and happy happy faces' sorta breaks the flow for me though, and I'd suggest writing the last two lines as 'mask the smell of / death.'. I think your choice of words is amazing and the whole thing is still perfect no matter if there are flaws.

I don't know what to say about this other than I really really like it. *flounders for something to say* I know there's a reason I like it somewhere but I can't articulate it! I think it's the fact that I'm thinking of newspapers and how they don't always tell the whole story, which refers to the charlatan mention and the gangrene.
